Bayern Munich defeats a resolute Galatasaray to keep their pristine Champions League record

After winning their fourth straight match in Group A against Galatasaray, Bayern Munich advanced to the Champions League knockout rounds thanks to a late brace from Harry Kane.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-275725″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-bayern-munich-defeats-a-resolute-galatasaray-to-keep-their-pristine-champions-leag-601×750.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com bayern munich defeats a resolute galatasaray to keep their pristine champions leag” width=”1343″ height=”1676″ title=”Bayern Munich defeats a resolute Galatasaray to keep their pristine Champions League record 12″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-bayern-munich-defeats-a-resolute-galatasaray-to-keep-their-pristine-champions-leag-601×750.jpg 601w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-bayern-munich-defeats-a-resolute-galatasaray-to-keep-their-pristine-champions-leag-150×187.jpg 150w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-bayern-munich-defeats-a-resolute-galatasaray-to-keep-their-pristine-champions-leag.jpg 696w” sizes=”(max-width: 1343px) 100vw, 1343px” />

Three minutes into the game, Galatasaray had a great start and came dangerously close to taking the lead when Mauro Icardi chipped the ball into the hands of Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer from an offside position, according to Xinhua.

Subsequently, the Bavarians assumed command and continuously tested Galatasaray’s defense, as goals from Leroy Sane and Kane forced goalkeeper Fernando Muslera into action twice.

In the final third, the hosts applied more pressure, but their lack of accuracy was evident when Sane’s effort from the outside of the box went wide in the 22nd minute and when Jamal Musiala’s attempt also went wide seven minutes later.

In the last moments, Wilfried Zaha’s attempt was stopped and Icardi was unable to past Neuer, giving Galatasaray new life.

Kane’s attempt, which came after latching onto a cross from Kingsley Coman, struck the woodwork in the 53rd minute, giving Bayern their best opportunity of the game.

Although Lucas Torreira’s goal was disallowed at the hour mark because of an earlier offside call, the visitors were still a danger and thought they had seized the lead against the flow of play.

With 80 minutes remaining, Joshua Kimmich’s free kick into the box was met by Kane, who headed home at the near post corner to finally break the tie for Bayern.

Six minutes later, the Englishman added his score by finishing off a square ball from Mathys Tel at the far post.

Galatasaray remained undeterred and, with the help of substitute Cedric Bakambu, cut the lead in half in the last seconds of injury time. The goal, however, was too little, too late, as Bayern’s defense held strong to win the Champions League group stage for the 17th time in a row and 38 times overall.

“We anticipated a difficult match. We were missing the last blow. It required endurance and time. I believe we deserved to win overall. We attempted a different strategy since Galatasaray had excellent defense. We achieved our objectives while maintaining a high level of performance. “I’m glad we qualified ahead of schedule,” said Harry Kane, the player of the match.

As a consequence, Bayern leads Group A’s standings, followed by Manchester United, Copenhagen, and Galatasaray.
